2025 Fall Artist in Residence

Kaylyn Kilkuskie :
A Perennial Thread

Kaylyn Kilkuskie (aka A Perennial Thread) is a multi-media artist from Kailua-Kona Hawai’i who currently resides in New York City. She has carried the title of “Creative” since childhood. As a theatrical and events professional she has dabbled in so many realms and mediums inside and outside of work. Collaborating and supporting a community of creatives is a large part of her art practice.

Like any creative person of many skills and interests it is difficult to encapsulate and name them all and claim them as one’s own. A Perennial Thread is sort of an ethos and the idea that things weave through our lives and sometimes have cycles of bloom, growth and dormant periods; its one part of an ecosystem and community.

Kaylyn obtained a BA in Theatrical Arts with a focus on costuming and lighting at Southern Oregon University. Inside and outside of her professional work in theater and events, her observations of the world and the impulse to utilize forgotten or discarded materials into their next life informs a lot of her works.

Kaylyn Kilkuskie joined Pencil Urchin Press as their second artist in residence in October of 2025. Kilkuskie spent a 2-day intensive with P.U.P co-founder Sarah Week working on a zine edition titled Raveling.

Raveling is an A Perennial Thread series of postcards offering a series moments over a year in the tangle of unbecoming and something after.  Raveling pairs Kaylyn’s photography & poetry, Risograph printed in the format of a postcard. Kaylyn can’t seem to stay in one place for too long, she gets to marvel at the world from many locations, often using post cards as a creative outlet. Some years she has sent over 300 pieces of postal mail. These postcards were then bound together to mimic a postcard booklet; like one would find in a souvenir shop. The intimate nature of documenting these travels allows the viewer to jump into unique stories and experiences of the artist.
